Getting Started
Welcome to SimploMail! This guide walks you through everything you need to do to start sending and receiving email with your own domain name. There are just three steps, and no technical experience is required, we explain each one in plain language and tell you exactly what to click.
The big picture. First you connect your domain name (likeyourbusiness.com) so email can be delivered to it. Then you create an email address on that domain. Finally you turn that address on so it can send and receive mail. Follow the steps in order and you'll be up and running.
Step 1: Add and verify your domain name
Your domain name is the part of an email address that comes after the @ sign, for example the yourbusiness.comin hello@yourbusiness.com. Before SimploMail can handle email for your domain, you need to add it to your account and prove that you own it. That proof is done with a few small settings called DNS records, don't worry, we show you exactly what to enter and check them for you.
You'll do this on your Domains page: open the Domains page
- Go to the Domains page and click the + Add Domain button in the top-right corner.
- Type your domain name (for example
yourbusiness.com) into the box and click Add. Your domain now appears in the list with a status of Not verified, that's normal, it just means the DNS records aren't in place yet. - In your domain's row, click Verify DNS. A window opens listing the records SimploMail needs (MX, SPF, DMARC, and DKIM). Each one shows the exact Type, Host / Name, andValue to add.
- Log in to wherever you bought your domain (your DNS provider, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or Google Domains) and add each record shown, copying the values exactly. Tip: clickCopy Instructions to grab all the records at once so you can paste them somewhere handy.
- Come back to SimploMail and click Verify DNS again. When a record is correct it turns green and says Configured. Once every record passes, your domain's status changes to✓ Ready for sending.
DNS changes aren't always instant. After you add the records at your DNS provider, they can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to take effect. If a record still shows as "Not set up yet" right after you add it, wait a little and click Verify DNS again, you don't need to re-enter anything.
Step 2: Create a new user (email address)
A user is simply an email address (a mailbox) on your domain, like hello@yourbusiness.com or you@yourbusiness.com. You can create as many as you need. Each user gets its own address and password that you'll use to log in to a mail app later.
You'll do this on the Add User page: open the Add User page
- Go to the Add User page. (You can also get there from the Email Users page by clicking + Add User.)
- Pick the domain you set up in Step 1 from the dropdown, then choose the part of the address that goes before the
@, for example typehelloto createhello@yourbusiness.com. - Fill in the first name, last name, and an optional display name (the name people see when you email them).
- Set a password for the mailbox (at least 8 characters) and type it again to confirm. Keep this safe, you'll need it to set up the account in your mail app.
- Click Create. Your new email address now appears in theEmail Users list.
Newly created addresses start out disabled. That's expected, you'll see a Disabled label next to the address. Step 3 turns it on.
Step 3: Enable the user to send emails
A new address is created in a disabled state, which means it can't send or receive mail yet. To turn it on, you choose a plan for that mailbox. Enabling is a per-mailbox subscription, so you only pay for the addresses you actually use.
You'll do this on the Email Users page: open the Email Users page
- Go to the Email Users page and find the address you just created (it shows a Disabled badge).
- In that row, click the Enable button.
- Choose a plan, Monthly or Annual. The annual plan works out cheaper per month, but either is fine and you can cancel later.
- Click Continue. You'll be taken to a secure checkout page to enter your payment details.
- After payment goes through, you're returned to SimploMail and the address now shows an Active badge. It's ready to send and receive email.
That's it, you're set up! Your domain is verified, your address exists, and it's enabled. Payments are handled securely and you can cancel a mailbox's plan any time from the Email Users page.
